Our history

The foundations for the M-Industry Group were laid by Migros founder Gottblieb Duttweiler as long ago as 1928, when supplier boycotts forced Migros to set up its own producer network and buy more factories.

The Migros Group is the owner and main customer of M-Industry. Migros is not only the biggest retailer in Switzerland: with more than 80,000 employees it is also the country’s largest private employer. In 2011 the Migros Group achieved sales of around CHF 21 billion.

Milestones in the development of an industrial group
Growth at home and abroad

Over the years, M-Industry has evolved into an efficient industrial group, and continues to be committed to growth. In Switzerland it focuses on potential in catering services and in the convenience business, as well as within the Migros Group.

M-Industry aims to reinforce its presence abroad with marketing structures in its principal markets – Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Austria and North America. It has opened a subsidiary in both the USA and Canada. Its strategic purchases have included, most recently, the takeover by Bina of Gastina, based in the Austrian town of Vorarlberg and specialising in ready-meals and fresh pasta; and of the UK company Hallam Beauty (now Mibelle Limited) by Mibelle, which has accordingly been able to build on its strong position in the manufacture and marketing of cosmetics and hygiene products internationally.
